HYPNOTHERAPY FOR IBS
About IBS
IBS is a functional disorder of the gut (stomach and bowels). Although all parts of these look normal, the function of the gut is upset. The cause of IBS is not known but it is thought that it may be due to overactivity of part(s) of the gut, causing pain and other symptoms, or lack of blood flow to the gut, causing inadequate activity. Up to 1 in 5 people in the UK develops IBS at some stage in their life and it can affect anyone at any age, but it often first develops in young adults and teenagers. There is no medical cure for IBS, but it can be eased greatly with Hypnotherapy for IBS treatment.
How can you tell if you are suffering from IBS?
Some people have occasional mild symptoms and others have unpleasant symptoms for long periods, but many fall somewhere in between this, with symptoms flaring up from time to time. Symptoms can be quite variable, including :-
Other symptoms sometimes occur including : nausea, headaches, muscle pains, backache, tiredness, poor appetite, excess wind and belching, an irritable bladder, feeling full quickly when eating and heartburn. Sufferers often experience several of these symptoms, causing not only major inconvenience but also affecting their ability to lead a normal life.
It is recommended that you see your doctor if you think you may be suffering from IBS and although there is no test that confirms the diagnosis of IBS, a doctor may wish to rule out other conditions and can usually diagnose IBS from the typical symptoms.
Why choose hypnotherapy for IBS help?
N.I.C.E (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) AND THE B.M.A (British Medical Association) RECOMMEND HYTPNOTHERAPY TO ALLEVIATE IBS SYMPTOMS.
There are some NHS departments now set up just for Hypnosis for IBS. Clinical trials regarding hypnosis for IBS have consistently shown that hypnosis can be an effective treatment. When using hypnotherapy to treat IBS, as much as a 70-80% improvement in symptoms has been shown. Clients who have come to me for hypnosis for IBS, report that with the alleviation of most of their symptoms, the problem is under control and they can have their life back.
Key factors in IBS are known to be stress, anxiety and diet. One of the elements in using hypnosis for IBS is to reduce stress and anxiety, not only about your condition, but also in your life generally. In my Sheffield Hypnotherapy Practice I teach clients techniques to use at home or work to relax in daily life and manage stress and anxiety effectively. Another element is ensuring the gut has sufficient blood flowing around to function properly. With hypnotherapy for IBS you can learn how to influence and gain control of your gut function, changing the way the brain modulates your gut activity. In hypnosis IBS sessions I also help clients to identify what elements of diet (if any) are triggering symptoms.
